Result!by JamieI am very pleased to report that due to the generosity of the guests and everyone involved with the production of the first Wibble, we were able to make a donation of £38,678 to the Henry van Straubezee Memorial Fund. The money is supporting thre schools: Buwoya Primary School, Kifuyo Secondary School and then in about October work will begin at Ksadhaki Primary School. Here are photos of Buwoya showing the workso far which has been done on the Wibble project, a four classrom block and a block of Lattrines!
As you can see the work is progressing well with the foundations complete and walling up to window level. In addition the pit for the latrines has been dug which is 24ft long and 30ft deep! If things go on as they are then we envisage that the work will be complete by the end of June. The headteacher, staff and community are all really grateful for this project and have asked me to pass on their thanks. Once Buwoya is finished we will move on to Kifuyo Secondary School Many thanks everyone and see you next year Jamie, Guy, and Susanna |

Henry and Why Ugandaby Jamie
Click here to make a donation online The following was written by Henry’s brother Tom: Henry van Straubenzee was killed in a car crash as a passenger on the 14th December 2002, aged 18. Having just completed his A Levels at Harrow School and with a place at Newcastle University to read Business Management, Henry was taking a Gap Year to earn some money and travel around East Africa. Henry was just finishing his job, working as a junior master at his prep school, Ludgrove, when this tragic accident happened. Everyone would agree that Henry lived for life - always the first to see light in every moment. He was kind, thoughtful and extremely funny, as well as being diligent and devoted to everything he put his mind to. He was adored by his parents, Alexander and Claire, and by his two brothers, Thomas and Charlie. His friends looked on him incredibly fondly and revelled in his infectious and mischievous humour. Henry had won an Army scholarship, like his Father, to The Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, where he was due to go after university. It is difficult to say what he would have done with his life after serving in the Army, but one thing for sure is that he would have carried on making people laugh. After his untimely death, Henry’s family set up The Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund to try and keep his memory alive. Henry never made it to East Africa on his year out, but the school, Bupadhengo in Uganda, where he was to have taught, was calling out for help. The Memorial Fund has since helped this school and its children to prosper. There have been more projects in East Uganda since and we hope to carry on helping as much as we can, in memory of Henry. There will be an after party at Mahiki No 1 Dover St.by Guy
I’ve managed to persuade the others at Mahiki to let us have an after-party there, just in case people feel like moving on after The Wibble. Obviously it’s included in the ticket price. |
